Circadian rhythms and cardiovascular disease
نویسنده
چکیده
Diurnal variations in the myocardium have been described at several levels, including gene expression, cellular signaling, metabolism, contractile function, and dysfunction. Regarding myocardial metabolism, carbohydrate, fatty acid, amino acid/protein, and coenzyme metabolism have all been shown to oscillate in the heart in a manner dependent on the time of day. The purpose of this review is to highlight our current understanding of diurnal variations in myocardial metabolism, with specific emphasis on fatty acid metabolism. Mechanistic studies have revealed control of myocardial fatty acid metabolism by an intramyocellular mechanism, known as the cardiomyocyte circadian clock. Whether disruption of myocardial metabolism diurnal variations during disease states contributes towards the etiology of contractile dysfunction is currently unknown. Heart Metab. 2009;44:5–9.

Disruption of Circadian Rhythms and Sleep on Critical Illness and the Impact on Cardiovascular Events.
The cardiovascular system exhibits significant daily rhythms in physiologic processes (heart rate, blood pressure, cardiac contractility and function), and molecular gene and protein expression. An increasing number of clinical and experimental studies demonstrate the circadian system is an important underlying mechanism that coordinates these rhythmic processes for the health of the cardiovasc...
متن کاملHypercholesterolemia Causes Circadian Dysfunction: A Potential Risk Factor for Cardiovascular Disease
Hypercholesterolemia is a well-known risk factor for a wide range of diseases in developed countries. Here, we report that mice lacking functional LDLR (low density lipoprotein receptor), an animal model of human familial hypercholesterolemia, show circadian abnormalities. In free running behavioral experiments in constant darkness, these mice showed a prolonged active phase and distinctly bimo...
متن کاملInfluence of N-Phthaloyl GABA on the Circadian Rhythms of Lipid Peroxidation and Antioxidants in Wistar Rats under Constant Light
N-Phthaloyl GABA was administrated daily (50 mg/Kg body weight-i.p) to Wistar rats for 21 days and circadian rhythms of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and antioxidants such as reduced glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were studied under constant light (LL) conditions. Delayed acrophase of TBARS and advanced acrophase of antioxidants (GSH, CAT and ...
متن کاملTherapeutic applications of circadian rhythms for the cardiovascular system
The cardiovascular system exhibits dramatic time-of-day dependent rhythms, for example the diurnal variation of heart rate, blood pressure, and timing of onset of adverse cardiovascular events such as heart attack and sudden cardiac death. Over the past decade, the circadian clock mechanism has emerged as a crucial factor regulating these daily fluctuations. Most recently, these studies have le...

Introduction: Human cognitive activities are affected by the time of doing homework, biologic rhythms and interaction among them. Method: this research accomplished to specify the fluctuation patterns of daily and weekly cycles of the students attention. The research method was correlation. The statistical population of this study were 45 female students in 11th grade from a high school in hu...
متن کاملCircadian regulation of renal function and potential role in hypertension.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Previous studies have shown that a variety of specific renal functions exhibit circadian oscillations. This review aims to provide an update on the molecular mechanisms underlying circadian rhythms in the kidney, and to discuss how dysregulation of circadian rhythms can interfere with kidney function. RECENT FINDINGS The molecular mechanism responsible for generating and mai...
